February 2007
Newsletter www.ofbpa.com Mission Statement:" Bringing Business and the Community Together"….. P resident’s Message:As we move forward into 2007 and start a brand new year, I am happy to say that we are finally financially solid. We have struggled to bring this organization to solid footing and now are we can comfortably plan events knowing we have the "front money’ for supplies and rentals. We could not have done it without the help of our business neighbors and the support of the community. Last year’s fundraising efforts raised $1100. We would like to thank The White Marsh Hilton Garden Inn, Beltway Plaza Movie 6, Perry Hall Print & Copy, Chuckle’s Bar and Grill and Great Occasions for their support. In this light, I would also like to say that I’ve taken a lot of verbal and email abuse this past year from the membership when events have been planned. I am not one to toot my own horn, and have had a debate about this with myself for the past few days, but it must be said so I can move forward as your president. No one cares or works harder for this organization than myself. I am pretty much the driving force that keeps this organization running and truly and sincerely have this organizations best interest at heart. I attend as many meetings with the county, the community and outside interest that I can physically fit into my schedule. I understand, promote and do everything in my power to bring networking opportunities, meetings, and events to this organization so that you may have the opportunity to network your business. With each event I come to our business members first for pricing and try my hardest to utilize our membership. In most events it becomes a win-win for both of us. However, I have to be very cost conscious as we are not an affluent organization. In most cases, because we receive county grants we are required to present 3 proposals. Your membership ($50) does not give you exclusivity. You know your competition better than I do, and if you give me your best price you should not be upset if I can not utilize your services. Your threatening "not to join" will not alter my decision. I have full and complete Board of Directors support on this. As we start a new year you need to ask yourself the following questions? Why did I join? If it’s to get the awesome PR we offer -free website listing, free directory listing, your name in our newsletter than you have accomplished your goal. But if you want to see this organization move forward you need to ask yourself the following: When was the last time I attended a meeting, handed out business cards and gave my business a "face?; Did I drop off 100 business cards to the Welcome chair so my card goes out in every member binder?; How many events did I participate in last year? When is the last time I used or contact a member of the OFBPA? Have I submitted a "brag time" blurb for the member corner so everyone knows what I offer?; How many FREE directories have I picked up and distributed to my clientele or put in my business for the community?; What was the last event I offered to help with either a well needed donation of money or a door prize for an event or as a committee member? When was the last time I went on our fabulous website? Baltimore County’s

Mark your calendars for the biggest event the OFBPA sponsors. Our vendor fair is FREE to the community- is provided to you at a minimal cost for space and is the biggest opportunity for your business to network. We are adding a health care component this year in hopes to draw a bigger crowd. The event will be held at Rosedale Gardens, located next to the Rosedale Fire Hall (8037 Philadelphia Road) approx. 5 minutes from Belair Road. We are at a disadvantage on the Belair Road corridor with not having many halls that can accommodate the type of event we want and the parking we need. Rosedale Gardens has it all- lots of lighted parking, ADA accessibility, one open hall where all vendors can be seen at once and Sterling Caterers will once again provide the food for our event. We are excited to add a "health fair" component to this event and would like to add a community information session as well. But we need people to chair/take chare of each component. Here is what we need for the event:
THIS EVENT IS ALL ABOUT BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TO YOU—THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO HAND OUT AS MANY BUSINESS CARDS/FLYERS/PR ITEMS AS POSSIBLE IN A FEW HOURS, AS WELL AS TO NETWORK WITH EACH OTHER. MARK THE DATE AND PLAN TO ATTEND—SPACES WILL BE LIMITED. FLYER WILL BE READY BYU OUR FEBRUARY MEETING AND POSTED ON THE WEBSITE THAT WEEK. (or call for a copy).
Note: The Member Corner is your chance to let the business and surrounding community know who you are and what you offer! Taking advantage of it is up to you. As you know we do not have a secretary, so all submissions will be how you give them to me. You want your contact information in there; give it to me in a form I can use.
