2010
Got any snow? By now most of us have shoveled (or in my case my hubby) the same spots over and over again and while there is a sense of resignation of having to do it again, the repetitiveness allows our minds to think about other things. This snow has severely affected many businesses on our corridor that remained closed during the worst of the storm only to open and re-closed when the next wave has hit. So
what do we do to recover from “Snowtopia 2010”? We think, we plan and we
look ahead to what we can do to drive customers to our businesses. The OFBPA
is launching a new venture for Mother’s Day weekend with an opportunity for
all businesses to participate. The planning part is NOW giving everyone time
to think, plan, and prepare for our 1st ever Belair Road
Corridor Crawl”. That’s right a one day shopping day blitz along the
Belair Road corridor stretching from Kenwood Avenue to Rte 43. This day will
be on Saturday, May 8th from 9:00 am- 3:00 pm. We are planning
entertainment, shuttle bus service and best of all a FREE COUPON BOOK to the
community. We know coupons work and bring customers to you business. So for
a small fee every business who wants to participate can put a coupon in this
booklet ( be smart make your coupon for more that one day, as any left over
books will be given to our local community associations and senior centers
the following week). Mother’s Day is one of the biggest shopping holidays of
the year and we want our customers to So the planning starts now. I know not all businesses are “retail friendly” that can offer a discount or a buy one get one at ½ price, however think of this. If you are not a retail business, can you give a way a free “promo” item to get folks into your place? If you are normally closed on Saturdays, why not hold an open house and do a coupon stating “free xxx” for stopping by our open house”? Open but close early on Saturday, why not get approval for extended hours that day? Our coupon book will be divided into sections to allow folks “to do it all” while in each center. Granted each shopping center/plaza is different, but with a 2 mile stretch, the possibilities are endless! We will also offer vendor table space for any business who “is not on the corridor”, but would like to participate as well. All of this is “work in progress” and if you love to plan I need you! We need lots of help to ensure success including a minimum of 2 people per shipping plaza for that day. We need help on the committee to coordinate certain events and help with the coupon book and much more! So mark you calendar and let’s make this the best OFBPA event ever! The OFBPA would like to welcome Linover Liquors to the neighborhood. Due to the weather I’ve not had a chance to visit, but will pop in and say hello next week! They are located next to the Blockbuster in the Belair Beltway Shopping Plaza. I am looking for some folks that are not on our board (who already do a lot behind the scenes for this organization) who could help with some behind the scenes work for the OFBPA. Most of it is email and possibly a few follow up calls, nothing very hard just keeping some things up to date. If you are a member and have NOT received a 2009-2010 OFBPA Business and Community Guide, please contact me ASAP so we can get one to you! Our monthly meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 24th. We have several guest speakers. We are very pleased to have Steven Connolly from Baltimore County Workforce Development to speak to us on what they do. Their services include recruitment Services, Assistance Upgrading Employee’s Skills (Funding Support) and training people on how to look for work in the 21st Century. They do this with many outreach efforts. Also joining us is Patsy Anderson from the Women’s Expo who’s bringing FREE tickets for all who attend and Brandon K. H. Dickens the Chairman of the North East Youth Council. Please log on for all events and for membership forms visit our website at. www.ofbpa.com.or Donna at 410-665-6551 Donna Bethke, President
